A powerful tool for growth

A letter to your future self

After reading this post, we’ll see:

  • What is the letter to your future self

  • Why you should know about it.

  • How you can use this idea today.

TL; DR;

Write a letter to your ideal future self. It’ll be a journey of self - discovery. Also, you’ll be surprised how close you can get to your ideal self.

Life is busy. It’s easy to get lost in the daily chaos & lose sight of your dreams. Of who you want to become. As humans, we dream of making things better.

  • A better lifestyle.

  • Better health.

  • Happiness.

These are big changes. But most of the time, we’re afraid & uncertain about how to achieve these changes. Also, we do not take the time to define our ideal life

Fortunately, I came across an awesome idea to solve this problem. Enter the letter to your future self. I’m doing this & so should you.

Ok….. what is it?

Today, block some time. Write to a future version of you. 1 / 5 / 10 years into the future. Doesn’t it sound crazy? It does, but it’ll also help you:

  • In self - discovery.

  • To get closer to your ideal self.

By writing , we get a peek into what’s really in our mind.

But…. does this work?

Hell Yes. This exercise is all about visualization.

  • Visualization changes how our brain works and helps create new connections.

  • When you imagine doing something, the same parts of your brain light up as if you were actually doing it.

  • A 12 week - study showed that visualization improved thinking skills & emotional well-being.

  • Athletes who used visualization saw a 35% increase in muscle strength just from imagining their training.

How you can use this idea today?

  • Block time on your calendar.

  • Choose a timeframe. Do you want to write 6 months, 1 /5/ 10 years into the future?

  • Write. Think about:

    • What’s working today?

    • What’s not?

    • Where do you want to be, in this timeframe?

    • Who is with you?

    • What are you doing in your ideal day?

    • What’s your social circle like?

There are websites such as futureme.org to help. Or you can go the old fashioned way, like I am. Either way, it’s an exciting experiment!

Of course, this is a first step to understand what you want. If you do nothing to work towards your ideal self, you’ll be where you are today.

Combine action with regular reflection, and you will go places.

That’s it!!

I hope this concept helps you get closer to the life of your dreams . If you found this helpful, share with someone who will benefit.
