How to pick & focus on your most impactful goals
Warren Buffet's 5/25 rule
After reading this article, you’ll learn:
What is the 5/25 rule?
How to use this in your life to focus on your most impactful goals.
“Less is more”
"Saying no opens the door to yes"
"Aiming for everything often leads to achieving nothing"
If any of these resonate with you, then you’ll love the 5/25 rule. If you find the statements strange, you will benefit even more.
We have a limited time on this beautiful earth. And, many shiny objects distract us daily - the latest diet / the 30 - day get rich scheme / a “must - watch” TV series.
If you’re not careful, life can be a never - ending series of distracted days - months - years with zero outcome. When your restless mind takes over, be careful.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
Warren Buffet, the legendary investor is credited for the 5/25 rule (although some articles suggest otherwise).
Nevertheless, we should dive into it - Mr. Buffet is one of the richest people in the planet, and he is well - known for the way he reasons and thinks.
The 5/25 rule involves listing your top goals, narrowing them down to the top 5, while eliminating the remaining 20.
Why does this work, you ask?
Extreme focus
Because:
It makes us eliminate ruthlessly.
Our time here is limited - we can’t focus on everything.
How to implement in your life
To get started, just follow this simple, 4 - step process:
Create a full list:
Of anything you want to focus on - hobbies / professional targets / health / relationship goals etc. Brain - dump everything that comes to mind.
Prioritize:
Arrange in ascending order - which ones do you feel most strongly about?
Choose the top 5:
Take your time. Make sure these are things you’ll do for free - because you love doing them. Be ruthless. This is a valuable step.
Say “no” to the rest:
Although the remaining 20 may be dear to you, it’s time to part ways. Be careful - don’t spend your time on these in the future.
I have personally used this in my life. I have too many hobbies 😀 , and I have narrowed them down to a very short list which I know I can focus on and learn.
Hope this helps in your journey. And if so, share the article with your friends and family.
