How to overcome procrastination?
( according to science )
After reading this post, we’ll see:
Why we procrastinate
A simple way to overcome it (according to science)
TL; DR;
When you don't feel motivated to do anything, do hard things. You’ll thank me later.
Dr. Andrew Huberman is a professor of Neurobiology at Stanford.
In a recent podcast, he shared an effective way to stop procrastination.
The best part? Once you realize this cheat code, you can use it knowing it'll work 100%.
But first, dopamine. It is a neurochemical which gives us feelings of pleasure, satisfaction and motivation. It's released when we expect something, and also when we experience it.
🙂 Sex
🙂 Shopping
🙂 Smelling your favorite dish
- these release dopamine. But unfortunately it can also drives addictive behavior. e.g. drugs and social media usage.
The best thing to do?
❌ Avoid things which drive addictive behavior. But sometimes the pull of scrolling through Instagram is too much. This gives us a quick high.
These quick dopamine highs aren't good. We're demotivated after this. Ever feel empty after binge - watching your favorite series? This is the reason.
Per Dr. Huberman, when we're in this state, the best is to do hard things. The activity should be worse or difficult than how're you're feeling. This is the key. It will get us out of the demotivated state.
😎 Plus, you'll feel much better.
A good example of a difficult activity for most people -meditation. For most people, getting into a calm state and staying there takes effort.
So, the next time you feel demotivated, do hard stuff. I know it feels difficult but just getting started feels awesome.
Use this cheat code & let me know your experience.
Let's crush it!
That’s it!!
I hope this concept helps you overcome procrastination . If you found this helpful, share with someone who will benefit.
