How to avoid the costliest mistakes in life

The most common regrets of older people

Why this topic?

Because regrets hurt.

Because you cannot go back in time.

But, you can design your live to avoid the most common regrets of older people.

I wish I didn’t work so hard.

Work gives us purpose. But not at the cost of health, family & relationships.

Peace of mind.

Draw your boundaries. Make time for what really matters - family, friends, hobbies.

"We work to become, not to acquire." - Elbert Hubbard.

I wish I took more risks.

Taking risks can be scary. But not taking them will lead to a life filled with regret - the costliest thing.

Experiment. Pee into the wind 🙂

"Don't be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson.

I wish I spoke my mind more often.

Learn to speak your mind tactfully. Not doing so leads to a mediocre life.

No need to be a rabble - rouser. But at the same time, no need to be domesticated.

Expressing your true feelings might feel scary. But not doing so can lead to heartbreak.

“Even if you’re a minority of one, the truth is the truth”

- Mahatma Gandhi

I wish I had lived in the present

Life is short. It is fragile. Live in the present, not for an imaginary tomorrow which may never come.

I feel most people don’t know how to live in the present - they’re too afraid of “society” / “status” or what “other people think”.

"The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it."

- Thich Nhat Hanh

I wish I followed my passions in life.

We are the most curious when we’re young. Don’t let education / society / time steal your passions. Make time for following your curiosity.

What will you do if money is not a concern?

Don’t let fear hold you back from pursuing your passions.

"The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams." - Oprah Winfrey

I wish I took better care of myself.

Take care of yourself. Because no one else will. Your body is your temple, your mind is the God.

We waste our prime years chasing a “salary hike” or a “promotion” to earn & impress people who do not care.

"Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live."

- Jim Rohn

I wish I had believed more in myself.

Silence the voice in your head. If you do not believe in yourself, who else will?

Don’t let self- doubt hold you back from realizing your full potential.

Keep learning. Don’t have a closed mindset.

"Believe in yourself, take on your challenges, dig deep within yourself to conquer fears. Never let anyone bring you down. You got this."

- Chantal Sutherland

I wish I had stood up for my values, morals & principles.

One who is silent in the face of injustice is as guilty as the one committing injustice.

When you feel strongly for something, speak up for it.

Environment / education / equal rights - what do you care about?

Don’t let fear of confrontation stop from expressing your thoughts.

"The only way to deal with fear is to face it head on."

- Brian Tracy

I wish I didn’t care about what other people thought of me.

I feel many people exist to show off to others.

Pause & think - why are you doing what you’re doing?

"Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner."

- Lao Tzu
